Example procedure of the device name inheritance for CPSN-MCB271

When replacing an existing CPSN-MCB271 on the system with a new device, there is a function to inherit the device name.

[Device name inherit conditions]

- Same model CPSN-MCB271
- All I/O modules connected to CPSN-MCB271 are the same model.
- All I/O modules connect to the same slot on the CPSN-MCB271.

If the conditions are not met, the device name cannot be inherited.
If you are unable to inherit the device name, please refer to [Example where device name cannot be inherited: ].

Device name inheritance procedure

1. Disconnect the old CPSN-MCB271 from the network.

2. Connect the new CPSN-MCB271 to the network.

3. Start the CONTEC Device Utility and press the "Reload" button.

The new CPSN-MCB271 and the old CPSN-MCB271 will be displayed under the "NET" tree as shown below.

The old CPSN-MCB271 under the "NET" tree is determined to be not connected to the network and becomes an icon.
The I/O module below the old CPSN-MCB271 will also become an icon.

A new CPSN-MCB271 will be added and registered under the "NET" tree and become an icon.
The newly added I/O module under CPSN-MCB271 will be in the "(New) device type" state and will be an icon.

Set the IP Address of the new CPSN-MCB271 to the same as the IP Address of the old CPSN-MCB271 and press the "Save" button.

If the CONTEC Device Utility recognizes that the IP Address and I/O module configuration are the same, the "Setting Updated" message will be displayed.

3. Click the "OK" button on the "Setting Updated" message.

The old CPSN-MCB271 and I/O modules will be deleted from the "NET" tree.

The device name under the old CPSN-MCB271 will be reflected in the I/O module under the new CPSN-MCB271. (For the example below: "AIO000" and "DIO000")

Example where device name cannot be inherited:

- There are more I/O modules connected to the new CPSN-MCB271 than the old CPSN-MCB271

- There are fewer I/O modules connected to the new CPSN-MCB271 than the old CPSN-MCB271

- The I/O modules connected to the old CPSN-MCB271 and the new CPSN-MCB271 are the same, but they are connected to different slots on the CPSN-MCB271

- The IP address set on another Ethernet device was set to the "IP Address" setting of the new CPSN-MCB271.
